film arts forum: sundance confidential

Film Arts Forum: Sundance Confidential will explore and demystify independent filmmaking’s premier event, the Sundance Film Festival. Local Sundance alum filmmakers, industry professionals, SFFS Filmmakers Advisory Board members and other insiders will share their experiences and thoughts about Sundance. The evening will begin by spotlighting Deann Borshay Liem's In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee and Jennifer Maytorena Taylor's New Muslim Cool, two documentaries by local filmmakers that were selected for the prestigious Sundance Documentary Story and Edit Lab. In addition, veteran filmmaker Sam Green (The Weather Underground, SFIFF and Sundance, 2003, and Oscar nominee), who served as the Lab's director advisor, will share a sneak peek at his film, The World’s Largest Shopping Mall. Next, a panel of Sundance experts will discuss a range of issues to consider when strategizing for the Sundance Film Festival. Panelists include marketing specialist and Sundance alum filmmaker Tiffany Shlain (The Tribe, Sundance, 2006); CEO of ro*co films and international sales agent Annie Roney; and seasoned local publicist Chris Wiggum. The Film Arts Forum, a keystone of the Film Society’s recently launched filmmaker services, is a dynamic, interactive mix of works-in-progress screenings, craft-based presentations, practical discussions, networking, trade secrets and cocktails—an entire conference in one evening.
