brideshead revisited

Julian Jarrold (England 2007, 100 min)
Actor Matthew Goode expected to attend

It’s no stretch to call Brideshead Revisited a romantic epic, and with its gorgeous sets, elegant costumes and dramatic flair, director Julian Jarrold has recreated this pre-WWII British story of forbidden love in grand style. The film is based, of course, on Evelyn Waugh’s classic novel of the same name, and Matthew Goode, who is expected to be in attendance, gives a customarily impressive performance as Charles Ryder, the dapper young college student who becomes enchanted by the mesmerizing, aristocratic and highly dysfunctional Marchmain family. Charles is particularly taken with the Marchmain children, Sebastian and Julia, and the ups and downs of this triangle makes for a smart exploration of love, loyalty, class and religion.

This screening is free for year-round Film Society members. You must RSVP to attend. To do so, email members@sffs.org. Not a Film Society member? Join now.
